Of the current Scotland squad, 26 of the 33 players play for either Glasgow Warriors or Edinburgh in the GUINNESS PRO12.
The Warriors currently sit second in the GUINNESS PRO12 table while Edinburgh lie seventh but Hidalgo-Clyne is confident that the two clubs' philosophies complement each other perfectly.
The scrum-half maintains that his Edinburgh team's miserly defence, combined with Glasgow's attacking flair, makes the national side a force to be reckoned with.
And the 21-year-old, who has been called up by Vern Cotter for the first time, admits he will fulfil a childhood dream if he makes his Scotland debut against France on February 7.
"I'm absolutely thrilled with this opportunity - it's been a lifelong ambition of mine to play for Scotland right from when I was growing up in Edinburgh," he explained.
"I think it's great that a lot of Edinburgh boys are involved with the squad - it just shows what we've done as a club and that we've been playing well.
"At Edinburgh we base our structure and our game around the defence, so that's a credit to the guys that we've been doing really well as a squad.
"Then Glasgow are great from an attacking side, so hopefully we can gel together as a squad with both of those traits and go well."
