O'Connell has featured five times for Munster so far this GUINNESS PRO12 season and will head back to the province ahead of their clash with Connacht Rugby next week.
The 35-year-old opened the scoring for Ireland with a try in the fourth minute and his team never looked back as they rampaged to a 40-10 win.
And O'Connell believes the day is one that will live long in the memory as he prepares himself to return to action in the GUINNESS PRO12.
"I never would have predicted such a game," he said. "In some ways it feels better than last year so it's great," he said.
"I'm very proud of what we've done over the last eight weeks, whether we'd won or lost the championship.
"Fair play to England, they were absolutely incredible. And fair play to France as well for scoring some amazing tries.
"I don't think it would have changed our belief if England had gone over in the last few minutes.
"I don't want it to be my last championships but I'm getting old."
