And while Hallam Amos dotted down at the other end there was plenty more for Munster fans to cheer.
Having been ruled out since October with a neck injury, Stephen Archer came off the bench to win his 100th Munster cap, while replacement fly-half Johnny Holland made his first GUINNESS PRO12 appearance since November 2014 after recovering from a long-term hamstring problem.
But it was his side's control and restraint that most pleased Foley come the final whistle.
"Our discipline was quite good - it looked like we were never going to give up a yellow card," Foley told the club's official website.
"The boys got behind the hind-most foot and got off the line and didn't go after the ball unless it was available to go after and they showed good discipline around that.
"The boys played well, they went about their job very well. It was difficult at times. Dragons as we knew coming into the game were going to be tough. They were physical with their nine and ten, they challenged a lot around the edges but our boys kept turning up and knocking them down.
"Granted there were one or two occasions where the TMO was called in but I think for the vast majority of the game we controlled it, apart from a ten-minute blast in the second half where we couldn't get out of our 22.
"Stephen is a quality player, so it's great to have him back now. It's taken Johnny a bit of a while to get back but he scored 26 points for Cork Con last week and came on and was very composed.
"He's a very tidy player and it was great for him to get 19-20 minutes, it was crucial. At crucial stages he controlled the game pretty well."
