Rassie Erasmus's side begin their Champions Cup campaign against last season's finalists and Top14 winners Racing 92, while Leicester Tigers and Glasgow Warriors also lie in wait.
And Ireland international Stander believes they can turn a tough loss into a powerful motivation ahead of their European campaign.
"We need a reality check. We're going over to Paris and it's not going to be easy. The good thing is we're not on a high going there, we were defeated today and luckily there's a lot to learn yet and it's going to hurt us a bit," the 26-year-old explained.
"We had opportunities, we just didn't use them first or second half. Jaco [Tuite] scored a good try there in the corner, we're creating stuff, just making silly mistakes and we're not capitalising on them.
Stander insisted that though the win turned out to be relatively comfortable for Leinster at the Aviva Stadium, a lot of the damage to Munster's hopes was self-inflicted and easily rectifiable.
"You can't win a game with that," Stander added. "Silly mistakes and they capitalised on it, I think they scored two tries from our mistakes.
"It's not big stuff, just look after the ball and that's going to come down and we'll need that for the next two weeks.
"Those two tries we gave them, that's 14 points and it's a close game so if we just cut that out, game on. It's stuff we need to fix."
