Foley's side fell to the Blues 37-25 at BT Cardiff Arms Park on Friday, losing valuable points in the charge for a top four finish.
And with reigning champions Glasgow Warriors breathing down their necks, the former Ireland No.8 knows the province must concentrate on a return to winning ways against Zebre Rugby on Friday before a huge derby with Leinster the following week.
"I don't know to be honest (about O'Connell). I haven't asked to have an input, I am more concentrating on the here and now, and making sure that we get results on the weekend," the 62-times capped Irish international said.
"It's something that I talk to the CEO about every now and then but it's not a regular occurrence.
"That is something you would need to talk to Paul (O'Connell) about. It is not something I would talk about.
"You are always answerable to somebody. Everybody is answerable to somebody so that's no change.
"That's there at the present. It just might be a different person."
Foley's own one-year contract extension was announced last week, but he could see O'Connell - with whom Foley played seven GUINNESS PRO12 seasons - come in to control the professional rugby programme and elite player development pathway.
Andy Farrell recently spent a brief spell with Munster and Foley praised the former England assistant coach, who is preparing to take over as Ireland's defence coach under Joe Schmidt.
"Very positive. He was good around the place, good with the lads, good advice for the coaches around the place. It was great to have another voice in the room," Foley said.
