Leamy was carried off with an ankle injury just four minutes into the second-half of Ireland's 41-6 victory at the RDS on Saturday night.
The 29-year-old had looked certain to be unavailable for his country's final autumn international against South Africa at Croke Park next weekend but the IRFU have today released a statement suggesting that Leamy could still face the Springboks.
"The medical update on Denis Leamy is that, following both X-rays and scans of his right ankle that he injured during the Fiji game, the injury is less serious than at first thought," read the statement.
"The Munster back rower will undergo rehabilitation this week, but is not ruled out of selection at this point."
Fortunately for both player, province and country, the medical tests performed after the game did not reveal any fractures.
However, no timescale has yet been put on the recovery process, meaning there is still a danger that Leamy could be unavailable for Munster's next installment of Magners League action.
The reigning Magners League Champions travel to Swansea to face the Ospreys on December 5, with Leamy's presence in the squad as yet uncertain.
After the league clash with the Ospreys, Munster take on Perpignan in back-to-back European fixtures before returning to Magners League action with a home tie against Connacht on Boxing Day.
