Wales have named an entire matchday 22 of Magners League Players, with Gatland selecting nine Blues, seven Ospreys, five Scarlets and a Dragon for Saturday's Millennium Stadium encounter.
Jenkins, who was the hero of the 1997 Lions tour of South Africa and remains Wales' leading points scorer, is currently skills coach with Warren Gatland's men.
And having seen Ryan Jones and co lead New Zealand at the half-way mark this time last year before a slipping to a 29-9 defeat after a disappointing second period, Jenkins knows that only a 80-minute effort will be enough to end a 56-year losing streak.
"We played some great rugby against them for 50 minutes last year, but we all understand that you need a concerted 80-minute effort against New Zealand every time you play them," said Jenkins.
"But after last year's game, and the fact so many of the Welsh players toured with the Lions this summer, the belief should be there and there should be confidence within the squad.
"We have trained well since last Monday - it has been tough and intense.
"However, the All Blacks are one of the best teams in the world - a fantastic side. They have some world class players and, in Dan Carter, they have one of the game's all time greats.
"Everyone expects New Zealand to win and do well, so when they don't people ask questions about them. But when they are under pressure they seem to find a way to come out the other side with a bit more about them."
Wales have not beaten the All Blacks since the late Bleddyn Williams led them to glory in 1953 and the entire Welsh nation seems desperate for that stat to change.
And while Jenkins would love to see an entertaining encounter packed with running rugby and glorious individual skill, the former fly-half cum full back would settle for a victory of any sorts.
"Both Wales and New Zealand like to play a bit more rugby than many of the other sides and it would be great to see a 10-try thriller on Saturday, as long as we come out on top," added Jenkins.
"But the truth these days is that if you kick the leather off the ball and win a game like the one ahead of us this weekend then everyone will be happy."
