Robertson, 24, suffered from the same injury last season which delayed his Edinburgh debut until the final day of the campaign; away at Llanelli Scarlets in May.
But the Scotland 'A' internationalist has since become a virtual ever-present during the 2008/2009 season; starting the opening 11 matches and contributing four tries in the process.
Nevertheless Robertson has experienced a recurrence of the groin injury which forced him to miss the opening match against Glasgow in December and the decision was made for him to undergo the operation.
Meanwhile, 23-year-old Grant, who has played for Stirling County this season, has suffered a similar set-back and will also undergo surgery.
Edinburgh head physiotherapist TJ Johansson said: "Both Mark and Ryan will have operations to repair lower abdominal injuries.
"We felt the timing was right for the operations to take place and we expect them to back in about a month's time."
