Glasgow Warriors chief executive, Ian Riddoch, said: "Friday's match was another milestone achievement for the club and I'm pleased that so many supporters of both sides attended the game.
"We had all three stands open at Firhill for the first time since moving here last season and with supporters of Glasgow and Edinburgh developing a good rapport with each other, it all made for a fantastic atmosphere.
"I'm very encouraged by the response we've had from fans for both legs of the David Lloyd 1872 Cup and I'd like to thank everyone who attended the derby games over Christmas and New Year for their support.
"We will now be working hard to welcome back those fans who perhaps came to Firhill for the first time and look forward to continuing to grow our fan base."
In terms of the appeal of the David Lloyd 1872 Cup derby matches, this year's combined attendance figure of 19,199 for the Boxing Day and 2 January games is an increase of 75% from the 10,956 supporters who turned out for the two games last season.
Also good news for Warriors fans is that, following Friday afternoon's victory, The Biggest Team in Glasgow now sit in fourth position in the Magners League, just four points off the top of the table.
The Warriors return to Magners League action at Firhill on Friday night against The Dragons. Kick-off is at 7:30pm.
