Scarlets sign exciting new talent

Head coach Nigel Davies said: "I'm thrilled that these players have agreed to join us. They will strengthen our squad substantially in terms of the skills and balance they bring.

"We've been tracking them for considerable time and have researched them in detail. They all have huge potential and I'm confident that by bringing them into the Scarlets environment we can help them fulfil that promise.
"They'll all benefit greatly from working with the experienced members of our squad.

"We're at a very important stage in our rebuilding and regeneration process at this region and the fact that we can recruit exciting Welsh talent should give everybody connected with the Scarlets great hope for the future."

The Scarlets hope that the new young talent will flourish as a large number of existing young players have this season. They include 20-year-old full-back Daniel Evans and 21-year-old centre Jonathan Davies, both due to make their senior Wales debuts against Canada tomorrow (Sat May 30).

Already announced as being on their way to Parc y Scarlets this summer are wing Sean Lamont (Northampton Saints), prop Rhys Thomas (Newport Gwent Dragons) and scrum-half Tavis Knoyle (Neath RFC).

The new players are:

Gareth Maule Centre, Newport Gwent Dragons
Richie Pugh Flanker, Exeter Chiefs RFC
Damien Welch Flanker, Cardiff RFC

The Scarlets have announced that flanker Dan Braid will now not be joining the region. He was injured whilst playing for the Queensland Reds and, although terms had been agreed, his arrival was reliant on him passing medical checks. The Scarlets wish him a full recovery and all the best for the future.

Nathan Thomas has left the region and goes with the Scarlets' thanks and best wishes for the future.
