Ospreys Elite Performance Director Andrew Hore commented:
"Unfortunately Mike has made the decision to leave us at the end of the current season in order to be nearer his family and we will be sad to see him go. He has made a huge impact in his short period on the Ospreys staff, and we value the input he has had, and continues to have. However, his personal circumstances are such that he felt that he was unable to continue to commit 100 per cent to the Ospreys. With a young family still living in Northern Ireland, he has been travelling back and forth regularly and he genuinely believes that it wouldn't be fair on the Ospreys, his family or himself if he was to let his professional standards slip below his own expectations, and as such, we respect his opinion.
"We wish Mike and his family the very best of luck in the future, both personally and professionally, and he knows that he will be welcome back in Ospreylia at any time."
McGurn added:
"I've had a great time at the Ospreys, and value highly the experience I have gained working with both the players and the coaching team, I've had a fantastic year. It's a great organisation that I believe will go on to bigger and better things in the coming seasons, I'm just disappointed that circumstances dictate that I won't be a part of the organisation for longer."
McGurn joined the Ospreys last summer after stepping down from a similar role at the Irish Rugby Football Union.
