This season sees him switch positions from the wing to scrumhalf, where he enjoyed considerable success earlier in his career, having played in that position for Ireland Schoolboys and U21s.
McPhilllips joined the province at the beginning of the Michael Bradley era, from St. Marys. In his first season with Connacht he proved to be a sensation in scoring tries, finishing second highest scorer in the league, proving to be a thorn in the sides of many a team. Since then his consistency and dedication have seen him stake his place in the side and now at the age of 26, he is reaching a milestone very few have achieved for the side.
