The 24-year-old, who signed his first ever professional contract in joining Glasgow last summer and has won nine caps for Fiji, was named the Warriors' Player of the Season on Thursday night.
Matawalu scored his seventh try from 15 RaboDirect PRO12 games as Glasgow beat Ospreys 35-17 last time out to remain in the hunt to finish in the top two that earn a home play-off semi-final.
The Warriors are third in the RaboDirect PRO12 table, a point behind Leinster in second, with one game left to play and that final fixture taking them to Ireland to face Connacht at the Sportsground.
Glasgow's win over Ospreys ensured they cannot finish lower than their currently placing of third but Matawalu isn't prepared to settle on that and insists the Warriors will be doing all they can to end higher up.
"I'm really enjoying my rugby just now and I feel that I've improved a lot since I came here," Matawalu told the Glasgow Evening Times.
"Already I have had some unbelievable moments in a Glasgow shirt and shared moments with the fans I will never forget. I hope to enjoy many more special times with them.
"We were very happy to secure our play-off spot last week but we're not thinking about that game yet because we've got a big game in Ireland to prepare for first.
"We know that if we win that game against Connacht and other results go our way we could still get a home semi-final and that is a big motivation for all of us."
