The in-form Scottish region recently made light work of Newport Gwent Dragons, winning 60-3, but have fixtures against all of the top seven sides remaining.
And although his side currently occupying one of the two home semi-final spots, Townsend expects his side will have to maintain their best rugby in the run-in.
However after losing out to Leinster in last season's semi-final, the former Scotland back believes a game of such important on home soil would be huge for the Warriors faithful.
"We know we have some very tough games coming up ahead," said Townsend. "We play the top seven teams over the next eight games, starting with Ulster on Friday, who are the top team just now.
"We know it's going to be a battle right down to the last couple of games.
"The top six were very close going into this weekend, only about four or five points separating second to sixth, so winning [against Newport Gwent Dragons] has helped our position.
"We know we have hard games coming up against rivals for those play-off positions.
"Our goal is to get a home semi-final because that would be great for the supporters of rugby in Glasgow."
