The 20-year-old centre made his debut for the Warriors in the last game of the 2011 season at Leinster before spurning the offers of the club to move to France and join Clermont.
A serious knee injury hampered his first season and since being on loan at Glasgow he has gone out to play for Stirling County as well as Scotland in their Under-20 Six Nations.
Bennett impressed in particular in the win over Italy last weekend prompting Glasgow head coach Gregor Townsend to hand him a start against the Dragons on Friday.
And Bennett's insists he would have been more aggrieved at a lack of playing time had the Warriors, who are second in the RaboDirect PRO12 table with ten wins, been suffering.
"It has been frustrating but at the same time the team has been playing well so it has not really been as frustrating as it would have been if we were not going so well," said Bennett.
"I have been playing most weeks with Stirling and then the last couple of weeks I have been playing with the under-20s so I have been getting some game time.
"It [going to Clermont] was the first time that I had been away from home, so it has definitely helped me as a person and if it has helped my rugby then that will be an added bonus.
"It was a different style playing on the hard pitch all the time, a bit more free-flowing. It brought on the skills and I did a lot of skill work and with the guys who were round about it was hard not to learn from them."
