The experienced lock has now returned to Glasgow and is aiming to ensure the Warriors hold on to top spot in the RaboDirect PRO12 and earn one the two home semi-final berths on offer in the play-offs.
And Kellock is fully aware of the role Glasgow can play in ensuring Scotland's 2013 Six Nations campaign is the start of better things to come at international level.
"For me, the key [to international success] is we have to continue to compete with them at club level," the 31-year-old told the Scotsman.
"That will mean when it comes to facing these guys in the international arena we're looking at them and saying 'well, look at our record at club level' and taking confidence from that, both Glasgow and Edinburgh.
"Man for man they're not any better than us. In the past I think Wales, and England and Ireland, had perceived superstars, but actually, when you take a step back and look man against man, you have to say that we can compete with these guys easily."
"Winning the league would be awesome, but we can't get ahead of ourselves. We have big games to even get into the play-offs, but we're in a good place.
"We're taking back to Glasgow more experienced internationalists and have a massive push now towards the end of the season."
