But a trip to Leinster, champions of Europe in three of the past four seasons and a team that beat Townsend's charges at Scotstoun earlier in the season, is a huge test for the Warriors.
And the former Scotland international insists his side are itching to prove their worth when battle commences in Dublin on Saturday.
"We are really looking forward to testing ourselves against the team which has been the best in Europe over the last few years," Townsend told the Glasgow Evening Times.
"They are the best team in Europe at getting quick ball and our ability to disrupt that and slow it down will be paramount. In that respect, we were outstanding against Ulster and not far behind it against Cardiff, and we will need to lift things again at the RDS.
"But it is an area we are working on this week in the build-up. Our ability to support our ball carriers will also be pivotal.
"This will be about imposing our game on theirs. We know how tough that will be to achieve, but that is the target."
