But this time around Gregor Townsend's side have a chance at sealing a home play-off, provided they can get a bonus-point win Connacht this weekend and Leinster slip up against Ospreys.
This year Murchie has had to compete with British and Irish Lion Stuart Hogg for playing time at full-back and has also appeared in the centres.
And it is the increased squad depth that has convinced Murchie that the Warriors can go the whole way this campaign.
"We've got all the tools required to win the competition, so anything less than that would be a massive disappointment to us," he said.
"I think if we went out at the play-offs this year we'd be absolutely gutted. Everyone in the squad believes that we can win it.
"I think we've got a slightly stronger squad. Across the park there are two in every position really pushing each other.
"I think our style of play has probably changed as well; last year we were very hard to beat, without playing that much rugby or scoring that many tries.
"This season we've tried to be a bit more expansive and I think we've scored double the amount of tries we scored last season.
"I think we're a year wiser for it as well. Most of the squad have stayed together and are a year more experienced."
