It completed a winless season for the Italian side, who have come desperately close on a number of occasions this season, racking up a league high nine losing bonus points.
But for Bergamasco, who has 93 international caps to his name, there are positives to be taken from the campaign and his sights are set on forcing his way back into the Italy reckoning with the side next year.
He told onrugby.it: "The positive thing for me is that after two difficult years with various injuries I was able to have a full pre-season and play on a regular basis.
"I got back that match fitness. My objectives haven't changed, I want to get back into the Italy team playing for Zebre. I will try with everything I have got to get there. Until someone tells me the story is over, I will keep believing. The World Cup is only in two years and after that I'll stop playing.
"If you look at the numbers [for our season] it obviously hasn't been positive but it's not a case of throwing out everything. We finished with ten points, all bonus points. That means we got within seven points of teams to pick up those bonus points.
"So how did we get on? I would say that without being overly positive, it didn't go that badly, with a little bit of luck here and there we could have won a few of those games.
"We are a difficult team to judge but I think that from a qualitative point of view we did a good job. So many youngsters who until a few months ago had only seen the academy pitches have now grown up."
