Jones fractured a bone in his shoulder during Wales' victory over Scotland last weekend with assistant coach Robin McBryde expecting the player to be sidelined for six to eight weeks.
The blow comes at a crucial time in the Ospreys' season with Jones side on the fringes of the play-off places as they look to defend their RaboDirect PRO12 crown.
And while it looks unlikely Jones will feature in the run-in the 32-year-old is refusing to wallow in his disappointment.
"My dad always said to me that you judge a man on how he deals with adversity, not how he is when things are going well," he said.
"I am struggling a bit and I am still a bit sore. I am having further tests and I have a fractured bone in my shoulder and I have to just make sure that is it.
"It is going to be a few weeks, which is rather disappointing. Your career never goes in a straight line. You are going to have bumps along the way."
