The Welsh region currently sit fifth as they look to defend their RaboDirect PRO12 title, just once place and one point behind the Scarlets who occupy the final play-off spot.
But Jones, who has made five appearances for Ospreys this season, was forced off in the 48th minute in Wales' victory over Scotland in the Six Nations on Saturday.
And with just five fixtures remaining, including crunch ties against current leaders Glasgow Warriors and high-flying Leinster, Ospreys head coach Steve Tandy will be slightly relieved to hear Jones won't face a length spell of the sidelines.
"He's [Jones] taken a bump to his shoulder," confirmed Howley after Wales' victory. "Obviously he's going to be medically assessed over the next 48 hours.
"He's smiling in the changing room, which is always a good sign from a player's perspective, and we'll just have to make a decision as and when."
