Jones knows the talent North possesses from their time together with Wales, with both men part of the recent Championship-winning Six Nations squad.
And while they may be rivals in the RaboDirect PRO12 Jones remains keen for North not to follow the likes of James Hook, Mike Phillips and Luke Charteris by seeking to play their rugby elsewhere.
"It is natural isn't it, if someone offered you more money you would want to go there wouldn't you," Jones told Wales Online.
"With someone like George, if it is actually going to happen, then the WRU do need to fight tooth and nail for him to stay.
"Whether they pay him or help pay him, I think kids want to come and see him.
"He's a big draw now down in West Wales and I think half the kids who come through the door want to see George North play.
"The regions maybe do need a bit of help to keep these players because it is going to be hard to compete with some of the figures being touted for George."
