But, with the daunting task of facing Ulster at Ravenhill approaching, hed believes the memory of recent successes against the Irish region will give his players the confidence needed to get a result.
Ospreys recorded an emphatic 38-27 victory over Ulster in the RaboDirect PRO12 back in 2010, while they have lost by just a single point on two occasions away from home since 27-26 then 15-14.
With their opponents unrestricted by a salary cap, Humphreys insists Ospreys are at a disadvantage with the likes of Ruan Pienaar still very much available to upset his plans.
And, although having to play players out of position, he hopes his troops can continue to execute the Ospreys' philosophy on the field and deal with the intimidating Ravenhill faithful.
"We have got over 20-odd boys unavailable due to international commitments or injury and we are really testing the strength of our squad and we know this period is so vital to us," said Humphreys.
"Ulster have a huge strength in depth which their financial situation allows but we know what we are dealing with.
"They have the likes of Pienaar available and they have a huge amount of talent there in a very strong squad and they look to perform close to the same level when their internationals are away.
"Their crowd are really passionate and it is a place we have had success before and we have won in tough circumstances and we understand the task that is in front of us and it will be a huge ask for a lot of these young players.
"I am playing boys out of position, especially in the back-line where we are playing scrum-halfs on the wings, simply because we haven't got anybody else really.
"When you get on the field you don't take a lot of it [the crowd] in because it is about sticking to the process and we work hard on having a philosophy and working to it and we have managed to get some decent results off the back of the way we want to play."
