The Ospreys are on an impressive run of form however, having lost just two of their last 14 RaboDirect PRO12 matches, but having been playing catch-up after a difficult start to the season that saw them lose their opening three games.
Last season, the Ospreys found themselves in a similar position before winning their last five regular season matches before defeating Munster in the semi-finals and Leinster in the final to claim the RaboDirect PRO12 crown.
And Fotuali'i, who has been acting as captain in the absence of Alun Wyn Jones, believes that experience will prove invaluable in this year's run-in.
"We are still in the hunt, very much so, and that is what everyone has to focus on," said the Samoan international.
"We can only do what we can do, which is perform well, be prepared, know our jobs and be clinical when we're out there. It sounds like I'm oversimplifying it but that's what it's about.
"We can't worry about the Scarlets, or who has more points at the moment as that will change week by week, or control what Glasgow, Ulster or Leinster, the teams above us, do.
"What we can worry about is how we perform and that's what the coaches will be drilling into everyone. We've got to focus on ourselves and perform as a team.
"It's all about us, making sure we get the right performance. If we focus on doing our own jobs right then other things should take care of itself."
