The Irish province currently sit third with 44 points but only five points separate second-placed Glasgow Warriors and sixth-placed Munster.
However after a 26-11 away victory over Cardiff Blues, the flanker highlighted the importance of a solid scrum and attacking ethos in adverse conditions in securing their third straight RaboDirect PRO12 win.
And with every member of the squad looking to earn a starting role against Treviso at the weekend, the 21-year-old believes everybody is stepping up their game at the right time.
"There are only a few points between second and sixth at the moment so it is all to play for and you just have to keep the leaderboard ticking over and you can't slip up or others will take advantage," said Murphy.
"It was good to get 80 minutes under my belt but it was a good team performance. Our scrum performed quite well in sticky conditions under foot and the work-rate was good.
"It is a hungry environment here which is great. It pushes everyone and makes you a better player. You have to put your hand up every week and nothing it written in stone here, you won't walk into the changing room and get handed the jersey.
"We went out with a very attacking approach at the weekend even in the conditions but we will have the same philosophy this weekend and we look to attack, play hard and defend hard."
