With the play-offs in the RaboDirect PRO12 and a European Challenge Cup final to prepare for Conway will figure heavily in his final season for Leinster.
But with Luke Fitzgerald and Dave Kearney for competition on the wings Conway has opted to join Munster and Schmidt for one is sad to see him go.
"Yeah, I think Munster have made an astute signing," he told the Score.
"Andrew, maybe, made the decision [to move] to avoid the log-jam with Luke Fitzgerald and Dave Kearney there. That sometimes happens. At the same time, with Luke and Dave, I don't think we're too badly off as well."
Kearney is making slow recovery from his head injury suffered against Munster last month meaning Conway might still have a prominent role to play on both fronts for Leinster.
"I'd be really hopeful that Dave Kearney would be available for next week," he added.
"It's three weeks now since he played. He's still a little bit symptomatic, to be honest, so we have to wait until Monday or Tuesday to see if he is fit to play."
