But the Leinster man, who has grabbed three tries in the RaboDirect PRO12 this season, comes into the starting line-up following the injury to Ulster's Craig Gilroy.
And with France coming to the Aviva Stadium on Saturday, McFadden knows he and his teammates will have to put right the mistakes of Murrayfield a fortnight ago.
"I'm delighted to be involved and to be picked on the wing," he said.
"We have got a lot to prove now after the last couple of games and I'm looking forward to it.
"There were a lot of things in the papers about a lot of opportunities that went astray against Scotland but on a different day we could have scored three tries and finished them off, unfortunately we didn't but it's only small tweaks for the France game.
"That's the kind of detail that can make a massive difference in the big games.
"We are all licking our lips to try and make amends for the disappointing result against Scotland.
"France are a wounded animal having lost three games in a row, a lot of pride is at stake for both teams, it's a mouth-watering game."
