Schmidt's side were shorn of 15 players who were away with Ireland but first-half tries from Isaac Boss and Jordi Murphy, plus 16 points from the boot of Ian Madigan saw Leinster triumph 26-11 at Cardiff Arms Park.
And after moving up to second in the RaboDirect PRO12 table - within nine points of leaders Ulster - Schmidt admitted he couldn't have asked for more.
"I am delighted with the win, we had 15 guys in camp with Ireland. We had to draw on some of the young guys in some sticky conditions under foot," he said.
"Jack McGrath did well and so did Jack O'Connell when he came on. Michael Bent was very strong in scrum. Dominic Ryan hasn't had a massive amount of rugby but played very well.
"Madigan kicked very well, Ian was 100 per cent which allows you to build score board pressure. It was good game management from Ian tonight.
"There is certainly a bit of life left in the old dog Leo Cullen. He is a workhorse. He got through work that people didn't see. He is a great guy to have for this part of the season."
