And with a team stocked with talent such as Jared Payne, Tommy Bowe and Andrew Trimble, he is looking to soak up as much of their know-how as he can.
He points to the success youngsters Craig Gilroy and Mike Allen, with 75 RaboDirect PRO12 outings between them, have had under their tutelage - and Andrew is keen to follow suit.
"For a young player, this is the top place if you want to learn and for myself I'll always be trying to pick things up off Jared," Andrew told The Belfast Telegraph.
"You look at how Gilly (Craig Gilroy) and Mikey Allen have come along from playing with Andrew Trimble and Tommy and you can see that this is the place to be.
"Every player wants to play as many games as possible but when you're a younger guy you're looking to show you can play.
"At full-back it's strange because I might not get the ball and then the coaches could say you haven't done much or they could kick every ball to me and have it go great."
