They currently lie tenth in the RaboDirect PRO12, but are just six points off the sixth-placed Dragons having played two games fewer.
And with a second game in a week against Zebre, Goosen is hoping for more of the same after a busy few weeks which have seen him take over from Franco Smith, and the club have to cope with the postponement of their league clash with Glasgow Warriors.
He said: "I'm very happy [with the result in the first game]. The boys did well in an intense, tough derby.
"Both of the teams played well. With everything that's happened in the last few weeks, we took a little while to get going, but we improved as the game went on and put them under a lot of pressure in the second half.
"Zebre were dangerous in attack and played very well in defence but their discipline was a problem. They also read our lineout very well. We'll have to be better when we play them away from home."
