But with a vacancy at No. 6 in the Welsh lineup due to Dan Lydiate's broken ankle, talk has turned to the prospect of McCusker dusting off his flanker skills.
The 26-year-old won the last of his four international caps to date in the 2011 Six Nations campaign as a flanker.
"I've played most of my rugby at six and obviously learning on the job at eight. I don't mind, I'll have a crack at both," said McCusker - one of 11 Scarlets representatives in the Welsh squad.
"There's definitely a lot of options, but we're all there to give the selection committee some headaches.
"I've been out of [Wales] action for a while. I haven't been involved for what seems like a long time.
"Hopefully everyone will have a fresh start and I can impress."
