This season the flanker has made nine RaboDirect PRO12 appearances and has impressed for the Warriors.
So much so that Scotland coach Scott Johnson rewarded his fine form with a start ahead of captain Kelly Brown over the weekend.
Despite losing the clash at Murrayfield 20-0, Fusaro still believes it has been a season to remember so far and held special praise for Townsend.
"I've been working to expand my game a bit with Gregor Townsend encouraging me to get my hands on the ball more often," he told the Edinburgh Evening News.
"It was a big surprise to get the call-up and although I've played a lot with Ryan Wilson at Glasgow, packing down in the back row alongside Dave Denton is a new experience but one I was looking forward to."
