It paid off for the RaboDirect PRO12's bottom club, who notched a 15-10 win in Parma to go with their 30-25 triumph at Arms Pack back in September.
Zebre had the likes of wing Giovanbattista Venditti and centre Tommaso Iannone available, with the latter particularly impressing Cavinato on Saturday.
And the head coach believes the victory - their third in RaboDirect PRO12 rugby - shows Zebre are capable of trading blows in the competition.
"I want to thank Brunel, who has granted us some Blues - Iannone was crucial, even in defence," said Cavinato. "Without them we would not have won the race.
"This shows the willingness of the federation and the national team to work closely with the regions.
"Cardiff have proved that even in difficult circumstances they are a team that knows how to play rugby, not give in and play until the end.
"We are more relaxed. We look to the future with the knowledge that we can produce more positive results."
Cavinato has relied on permit players from other Italian sides to cover for his international absentees in recent weeks and he still had a couple on Saturday.
Hooker Luigi Ferraro and flanker Braam Steyn each completed 80 minutes and the former was grateful for his opportunity in the PRO12.
"It was hard, not easy, on the field," said Ferraro. "We put heart into executing the game plan. It is a good, positive performance for the whole Italian movement.
"Thanks to Rugby Calvisano for letting me play at this level."
