However, the Scarlets are on a good run of form having won their last three league games including a hard-fought 18-13 victory over Munster at Parc Y Scarlets last weekend.
The Scarlets also have a game in hand over the Ospreys and Jones believes his team are in prime position to pounce if the teams above them start to struggle.
"We are still looking up at teams, which is not what we want," said Jones.
"But these last three wins have given us a chance to put a bit of pressure on those above and if they do slip up hopefully we can be on their heels.
"We stuttered a bit at the start of the season, but we have possibly come through that now and hopefully can have a strong end to the season."
