The win was Glasgow's first in three games following narrow losses to Leinster earlier this month and Newport Gwent Dragons at the end of February.
But they now sit four points behind the Ospreys with two games in hand on all their top four rivals and Townsend was happy to seal the win.
"It was an important win for us but the second half wasn't as fluent as we would have liked," he said.
"I thought in the first half we played a lot of good rugby, we were physical, our defence was in place and we just didn't build on it in the second-half.
"Maybe we were lacking a bit of match practice because we haven't had a game in three weeks."
