And despite the frustration at the slow start which ended up costing Treviso a shot at the win at Welford Road - they eventually went down 33-25 - Smith is confident his team have it in them to cause Leicester a few more headaches in the home leg.
He said: "Obviously looking in hindsight it's a shame with the chances we missed but we played against a top team who used their strength very well in the first half to cause us problems.
"We know they will come here needing a win but we want to make it difficult.
"Our second-half performance probably won't do us any favours in that regard. They won't take it lightly.
"We could have scored another try last weekend, and we probably shouldn't have conceded as many as we did.
"We don't play Premiership teams very often so we showed them a lot of respect early on. We need to believe that we can win these games and make them make mistakes."
