His Zebre teammates Marco Bortolami and Mauro Bergamasco, who couldn't be at the event, sent a video message of support in the campaign against racism, referencing the words of Mandela and his influence on their sporting careers.
And Trevisan, who has made nine RaboDirect PRO12 appearances for Zebre this season, believes that rugby is currently showing the way in the fight against racism.
He said: "I've never seen or come across racism in rugby: for example Pacific islanders - from a different race, who tend to be stronger physically - are much sought-after in Europe in the biggest competitions, but they never suffer discrimination even less so in the stadiums.
"You can lose and finish with a sour taste in your mouth, but after the game there is the chance to become friends again and catch up with people.
"In the end, any disagreements on the pitch, stay on the pitch, and you cheer the winning team as a sign of respect. It happened to us in Cardiff in September 2013 for what was our first win in the league."
