Wilson and Eddie sign new Glasgow deals

Wilson has penned a two-year extension, while Eddie has signed a new one-year contract.

This is a major boost for the club ahead of Saturday's 1872 Cup second leg with Edinburgh Rugby and comes just five days after the club confirmed new deals for fellow backrow men Rob Harley and Tyrone Holmes.

24-year-old Wilson joined Glasgow in 2010 and has gone on to make 78 appearances for the club.

He made his Scotland debut in the 2013 RBS 6 Nations against Wales at Murrayfield and now has nine caps for his country. He featured in all five of Scotland's RBS 6 Nations games this year.

Ryan Wilson said: "Playing for the Warriors has given me the opportunity to go on and play for Scotland and I'm really enjoying my rugby just now.

"There is a great atmosphere around the club and there is huge strength in depth within the squad.

"It was an easy decision for me to stay in Glasgow and I'm looking forward to the next couple of years."

James Eddie has been at the Warriors for nine years and has made 104 appearances for the club.

He has represented Scotland at under-18, under-19 and under-21 level and has also featured for Scotland A and Scotland 7s.

28-year-old Eddie was part of the Warriors squad that won the Melrose 7s earlier this month.

James Eddie said: "Glasgow is my hometown club and I'm really happy to be staying.

"We've got a really competitive squad and my ambition is to win a major trophy with the Warriors.

"I love being part of the club and I'm very excited about the direction it's heading in."

Glasgow Warriors head coach Gregor Townsend said: "Getting Ryan (Wilson) and James (Eddie) signed up adds further depth to the competitive group challenging for places in our backrow next season.

"Ryan has improved every year since he's been at the club and is one of the most skilful backrow players in the game.

"He's very quick and has really good offload skills. He's put a lot of effort into improving physically and he tackles low and gets up and competes for the ball, which is what we like to see in our players.

"James is very popular within the squad and he's had an excellent season so far. He works very hard to improve himself and has made a big impact in a number of games this season.

"He has also played very well for Scotland 7s this year and was a key player for us when we won the Melrose 7s.

"James is someone we know we can always rely on and we're delighted he's staying at the club next season.

"We always look to re-sign players we believe can drive us on to become a better side and Ryan and James will have big roles to play in our future."

Glasgow Warriors face Edinburgh Rugby in the rescheduled 1872 Cup second leg at Scotstoun Stadium this Saturday (26 April, kick-off 7.05pm).

The capacity of Scotstoun has been increased to around 10,000 for the remainder of the season and tickets for Saturday's game are available from www.glasgowwarriors.org or by phoning the ticket office on 0844 800 3490 (Monday to Friday, 9am - 5pm).

The ticket office at Scotstoun will be open on Saturday from 10.30am and tickets will be available right up until kick-off (subject to availability).
