The Warriors know that victory over their rivals at Scotstoun on Saturday evening will move them up from fourth to second in the RaboDirect PRO12 table.
Just two games remain of the regular season with Bennett's side going into the rearranged 1872 Cup clash looking to maintain a run that has seen them win their last five games.
But the centre, who will be playing in his first senior derby having been named in the starting line up, insists there is no room for complacency.
"The main focus is on getting the points. It is a big game and it's a derby but first and foremost we need to win this game to move up the league, so that's all we're focusing on," Bennett told Glasgow Warriors official website.
"I would say form goes out the window because you never know what is going to happen on derby day.
"Edinburgh are going to be up for it just as much as we are so we're going to need to perform if we want to get the result we're looking for.
"There is expectation and there's pressure but that's the same for every game. It doesn't change just because it's a derby."
