The 19-year-old injured his wrist in defeat to Ospreys earlier this month, but scans have revealed he requires an operation and is unlikely to return before the end of 2014.
The Dragons, who have lost all three of their GUNNESS PRO12 fixtures so far, are already light in midfield with Pat Leach, Tyler Morgan and Ross Wardle set for extended spells on the sidelines.
And Jones admits he is desperate to have some of his senior players available again to bolster an otherwise young team.
"We need to get our experienced players on the field and it will give us confidence if we can do that," Jones told the South Wales Argus.
"There are a lot of good things out there, but we are not backing it up. We've got holes in our defence and holes in our attack. In the long term it will do us good but for now it's hurting us.
"We hope that a couple of fellas will be back and we need them back on the field.
"We have a lot of young players who have a huge future in the game but they need to have experience around them.
"Good players give you a good team, developing players give you a development team."
The Dragons are back in action on Sunday with Benetton Treviso the visitors to Rodney Parade.
