The Fiji centre has quickly found his feet since arriving at the Liberty Stadium this summer from Worcester Warriors, playing all bar one minute of his side's GUINNESS PRO12 campaign.
His arrival has also coincided with an impressive start to the season by the team as a whole, with Steve Tandy's men sitting top of the table with a 100 per cent record.
And Matavesi believes playing alongside Welshman Bishop, capped 16 times by his country, has contributed towards his own flying start.
"He is easily one of the most underrated players I have played with and I am not sure why he has not got more Welsh caps," he told WalesOnline.
"He makes your life easier, is one of the best defenders I have played with and people don't give him enough credit for his attack.
"He is Mr Consistent. We have a nice balance to our game and he can read what I am going to do.
"The boys are calling us a fat Ma'a Nonu and Conrad Smith. I am not sure who came up with that nickname but there are worse players to be compared with."
