After an opening-day victory over Munster, Alan Solomons' side struggled for form until a 24-10 win against Newport Gwent Dragons in round six was followed by impressive back-to-back European triumphs.
Yet despite the return of Denton against Leinster last weekend, an Edinburgh side missing 18 players through injury failed to trouble the reigning GUINNESS PRO12 champions in a 33-8 defeat.
And although the No.8 has been recalled to Vern Cotter's Scotland squad for the forthcoming internationals, Denton is confident he can help his club side realise their full potential this year.
"It's been a really up and down year for us and consistency is something we've always struggled with since I've been here," said the 24-year-old.
"We have the makings of a great side with some impressive players and when we come together we can play some fantastic rugby.
"We showed a bit of that in the two European games and we've historically done well in Europe, but this year in particular the GUINNESS PRO12 is the most important competition for us.
"Our form has been improving and when we get it right we look good but we struggle when we lose possession and you can't win games without the ball.
"We're still aiming for the play-offs and then anything can happen - but to get there we need some good performances and to keep on winning."
