Not long after landing in Dublin, rugby league convert Te'o turned out against Edinburgh only to suffer a broken arm, subsequently going under the knife.
The GUINNESS PRO12 returns this weekend, following a three-week break, and Leinster face a visit to Benetton Treviso on Sunday.
For Reid the trip was earmarked as an opportunity - with Gordon D'Arcy away on international duty - to link up with Te'o in the centres.
That will have to wait for now but the 24-year-old, who made his senior Ireland debut earlier this year, is determined to capitalise on any first-team opportunities with or without Te'o by his side.
"I was looking forward to getting a bit of a partnership going with Ben," said Reid. "He's a big man, he carries pretty well and he's got good skills.
"It would have suited my game playing off him, he could have created a bit of space for me. I'm just concentrating on my own game for now though.
"These periods every year are pretty big for the lads who aren't in the international squads and the younger guys coming through.
"If you play well in these games, there are Champions Cup games coming up so you can hopefully put your hand up and give Matt (O'Connor) a bit of a headache."
