Harris put pen to paper on a three-year contract in August, but initially remained in his native South Africa to help Western Province clinch the Currie Cup.
Back-to-back cup excursions with the Dragons earlier this month gave the prop a first taste of northern hemisphere rugby - the highlight a 51-35 mauling of Ospreys.
But, as the 29-year-old prepares to get down to the nitty-gritty of the GUINNESS PRO12 when Munster visit Rodney Parade on Friday evening, Harris is hoping to inspire only a second league win of the season to guide the tenth-placed Dragons clear of the foot of the table.
"We will build every week and try to improve, because if you are not growing then you are dead," he told the South Wales Argus.
"It's gone well, but there's still a lot to work on, especially for me adapting to the mindset of the northern hemisphere with the longer scrums.
"I've been getting used to that and the structures and calls, because I was at Western Province for eight years, so it's not going to come overnight and my first few weeks have been busy.
"We have been working hard and everybody is buying into what we are doing. There's a great work ethic here towards the set-piece."
