Dunbar has impressed in the GUINNESS PRO12 so far this season, scoring one try in three appearances for the Warriors.
Glasgow have lost just one of their opening seven GUINNESS PRO12 games and currently lie second in the table, but Dunbar has also been enjoying life on the international scene.
Since Cotter replaced Scott Johnson as head coach in May 2014 the Scots have won four of their six games.
And, ahead of this weekend's clash against Tonga, Dunbar claims the camp is in a nice place at present.
"Vern and all the other coaches give you the template, but a lot of it is player-led," Dunbar told The Scotsman.
"I think that's the best way. It's the players out there who are doing the job at the weekend, so it's got to come down to them.
"It's not just the senior guys who determine what we're doing. There are a lot of young guys - Finn Russell, Hoggy [Stuart Hogg] - who have come through and have ideas of what we can do and have their own stamp on the game."
