The Warriors slipped to fourth in the GUINNESS PRO12 table on Friday, following their 19-9 defeat to Scarlets.
Their second defeat in three matches comes on the back of a storming start to the season, where they were victorious in their opening five matches, including a 33-13 victory over the Dragons at Rodney Parade.
And, as Townsend prepares his troops for the return fixture ahead of an action packed month of European and domestic rugby, he expects an instant response.
"We know we have to keep working hard, no matter who we're playing and the time of the season," he said.
"It was tough against Scarlets as our players don't like losing and not playing to their potential, but next week we have another opportunity.
"The Dragons will come to Scotstoun in the knowledge they beat us last year so we'll need to be strong.
"The match is our last before December which is a huge month.
"There were a few players who did well against the Scarlets and put their hands up for possible selection for those key games."
