The Dragons are seeking a return to knockout stage European rugby for the first time since 2007 and made sure they head into 2015 with a chance following their rout of Bucharest.
There were nine players on the scoresheet - including a hat-trick for Tom Prydie - as the Welsh region now go on the hunt for their second GUINNESS PRO12 win of the season when it returns next weekend.
They will do so without Smith, who faces a spell on the sidelines following an early collision.
But Jones believes his side are well-placed to prolong their European adventure come January.
"The sad news is that Ashley has broken his jaw and has lost some teeth," said head coach Jones.
"That's a massive blow for us because he brings a lot to the midfield and we'll miss him.
"It all comes down to us beating Stade Francais at the end of it - whether we beat Newcastle or not.
"I think two teams can go through from this group and we're in a good position to qualify, but we've got two huge matches left."
