Solomons has faith in match-winner Sam for Edinburgh

The 21-year-old touched down twice and was superb with the boot to notch up 28 points in the 38-20 victory over Bordeaux Begles at BT Murrayfield on Saturday.

It was a record points haul for an Edinburgh player in European competition and guaranteed Solomons' side a place in the knockout stages.

And the Edinburgh head coach tipped his cap to the young gun, insisting he has what it takes to make it count on the international stage as well.

"Sam is an absolutely outstanding player," he said. "He is genetically gifted as well and has everything and is electric around the field. It is a racing certainty he will play for Scotland.

"For a lad who has come to scrum-half late in life he has just been fantastic. I would not be suprised to see him get a run in the Six Nations coming off the bench.

"He has a lot of versatility and has had a stunning season, as has Ben Toolis. Sam is very, very fiesty as he showed when he scored a try by ripping the ball away."

Hidalgo-Clyne has featured in all of Edinburgh's GUINNESS PRO12 matches so far this season, and has impressed in recent weeks having taken over kicking duties for Solomons' side.

But the talented youngster shared the credit for Saturday's win with Edinburgh's pack.

He added: "We did not get too much attacking opportunity from the backs and it was more forward-orientated, but it was a fantastic game to play in. We're thrilled to make it through."
