Munster are usually involved at the deep end when Europe is involved but were out of contention by the time last weekend's final round of pool games rolled around.
However, they bowed out of the competition with a bang after handing Sale Sharks a nine-try hammering at Thomond Park.
The GUINNESS PRO12 is now an even bigger priority for the Munstermen and with just five points separating the top five teams, the run-in is set to be a thriller.
And O'Donnell insists Munster will settle for no less than second as they eye a home semi-final in a bid to reach the finale at the Kingspan Stadium.
"The (GUINNESS PRO12) is a big thing," O'Donnell told the Limerick Leader. "To see how we finished last season and how it's shaped this year with the group, it's a big driver for me now that we can't settle for third or fourth place.
"We need to win to push on for first or second place to get - there's no easy draw - but the slightly favourable draw, and push on in Europe.
"We've a team of good, hungry young fellas here and we need to win silverware. That has to be a big driver for us.
"We know the bottom of where we are with (the loss against Saracens) and how much better we can be than that. We have to remember it and keep going, keep being better."
