Of their last 17 encounters with French teams, Edinburgh have won 11, including wins against Racing Metro, Castres, Stade Francais, Perpignan and Toulouse - highlighting Scotland's ability to mix it with France's elite clubs.
Dickinson is convinced a strong Glasgow and Edinburgh in both the GUINNESS PRO12 and European competition always translates to a strong showing for Scotland at international level.
And with Glasgow sitting in second in the PRO12 table and Edinburgh back in seventh - Dickinson is predicting a successful showing for Scotland in this season's Six Nations.
"There's a massive difference from Challenge Cup to Six Nations and we can't rest on that," said Dickinson, speaking in the Scotsman.
"The matches have reminded us though that with the French you never know what you are going to get, you never know what team will turn up and we have to be ready.
"On their day the French side are world class and it goes to show when they put minds to it they can beat anybody comfortably.
"I tend to separate Edinburgh and Scotland. But you can pick up on a few French traits and guys can come in with a bit of confidence from the way Edinburgh has played in the last couple of months."
